At Hampton Preschool walls, windows and bulletin boards are covered with child-created work, photographs of the children at work and transcriptions of their comments made during the course of working. We display children’s’ work to let them know that their work is at the center of importance. As your child enters the classroom and sees his/her work displayed on the wall he/she will become curious and confident as they contemplate the meaning of what they have achieved.

By documenting and displaying children’s work, learning becomes visible to them; it provides them with a visible trace of the different processes of their projects. This “visible memory” of what they were doing or saying serves as a platform for the next steps in learning. Documentation also provides rich content for teacher-parent or child-parent discussion and makes evident the capabilities and intellectual powers of young children. Finally, it provides parents and the community with the information that Hampton Preschool children are engaged in interesting projects and other activities worthy of documentation.
